Ubuntu 20.04 broke CrossOver Linux 18.5.0-1 missing python-dbus python-gtk2

Asked by Ratko

Hi friends,
I have purchased CrossOver Linux 18.5.0 and previous version , but now after upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 CrossOver Linux 18.5.0 does not work any more . I have attempted to reinstall I get :
CrossOver needs your permission to install missing packages.
This operation must be run as root:

  sh -c "apt-get update; apt-get install python-dbus python-gtk2"

after i get it root password I get:
E: Unable to locate package python-gtk2
Finished. Press Return to continue.

Is dependency going to get fixed?
Latest version of CrossOver Linux 19 installs without problem, but I cannot afford it at the moment.
Kind Regards

If you purchased Crossover Linux you also get support with them. I suggest you create a ticket with Crossover Linux and they can help

It's possible that Crossover doesn't support Focal yet and the package it needs isn't in Ubuntu (or they need to re-engineer it to not use the old GTK)

python-gtk2 and pygtk is obsolete and not available in Ubuntu 20.04 any more.

https://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=26;msg=226563 indicates that the newest version of CrossOver Linux (probably 19.*) works with Ubuntu 20.04

I guess I deserve it for purchasing proprietary software. I only use it for playing one game, but mostly I purchased it to support WineHQ. Below is answer from Crossover support :

HI Ratko

There are not any plans to update Crossover 18.x unfortunately. We are already deep into work on Crossover 20 at this time.

If you do decide to purchase a new license for Crossover now https://www.codeweavers.com/store/pricing The One Year version would also include the update to Crossover 20 later this year. You could also wait until 20 is released and test that with the 14 day free trial at that time. In either case, feel free to use the coupon code BRIAN30 during checkout to save 30% off your purchase.

Thanks
Vince

I believe that Ubuntu dev team asked to report libraries that break applications (hear it on Ubuntu podcast)
those two do, that why I have reported it,and would be nice for it to be included in 20.04, for sake of users.
