download document from google chrom

Asked by terran

My system is Ubuntu 20.04. I replaced the firefox with google chrome.

I get problem when I download document, (a *.deb file for example). In Win or MAc OS when I click on download link, it offten popup a dialogue box asking me save or run the file, or where to save, but in Ubuntu no popup and the web page dimmed at the same time. I a beginner for Linux system, and not familiar with basic settings. I also have similiar problem when I run VS code when I create new file or workspace: no popup.

I guess it shuld be a quite easy setting, maybe stupid to you guys, but please help!

Windows won't ask if you want to "run" a deb, I'm not sure about MacOS but Windows cannot use deb files from the browser. You can probably open them in an archive manager like WinRAR / 7-Zip but it won't "run" it.

If you right click on the URL for the deb and select "Save As" does it show a dialogue as expected?

No, it doesn't show a dialogue. The response from the website is the webpage turns dimed(dark). I right click with mouse and select 'open in new window', then the browser open a new window. I copy the address from the new window and download the file with command 'wget + address'. It download the target file successfully. Therefore I solved the problem partially, but not in the best way. I think there must be better options.

It doesn't matter if you are the only user. You can still have multiple accounts. The fact that you are just one person is absolutely irrelevant.

You may be new to the OS but nobody is born knowing how to make users in Linux but you could use the Internet to find out.....

You'd easily find this guide

Can you help with this problem?
