Not having the cam in question, can you give a little more detail.

For instance, is it is a USB cam or built in to the laptop? If a seperate cam,plug the cam in, then open a terminal and type in

dmesg

then see if your camera is mentioned. Can you give the exact details it gives for the camera (especially any mention of vid and pid). If it is built in to the laptop, then again, the details are useful.

Secondly, if a USB cam, can you type in

lsusb

and again, give the details for the camera.

With these details it should be possible to decide what modules it needs to get the cam working. In theory, they should have loaded when you plugged the cam in, but it might be the case that the cam uses a module (driver) which isn't included in the kernel and you may have to add that yourself - but it isn't terribly hard.
