Once downloaded, the netbook remix file is only 38MB?

Ive got an acer aspire netbook and downloaded the .img file for ubuntu 9.04 remix. it downloaded onto my other xp laptop in order to put it on usb and boot the netbook from it but the download, which was meant to be 945 odd mb was only 38mb when it finished... Im not sure why but it isnt the full 945mb.. any ideas? i am new to linux and especially ubuntu. ive got limpus linux lite on the netbook and want this version on it as it has a better UI.

Does it pass MD5 test?

If it does, then, Yes thats it.

If not, no, the file is corrupt and needs redownloading.

Simple way to test. Strange you asked.....

They are there so you can check your file is ok. TCP is an awesome protocol with great transmission garuntees but it is not flawless so data can pass checksumming even if it is wrong and your ISO will be useless. MD5 checking allows you to verify the file is correct. This is CRITICAL with operating systems disks.
