BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4318] (rev 02) not working on HP Compaq NX6110 in Ubuntu 9.04
Hi
I have just installed 9.04 on an hp laptop (curiously with a compaq nx6110 label). The wireless card is a Broadcom 94318MPG (Uses a BCM 4318 chip). I've filled in the correct IP address etc but I don't think the card is powered up. The Laptop has a button with a wireless symbol and a lamp but this does not illuminate when pressed. It used to work using a much earlier version of Ubuntu (think it was 5).
Any help much appreciated.
Martin R Dare
PS I'm a complete Ubuntu newbie so be gentle :-)

Hi,
According to http://
your wireless should work, after installing all updates for Ubuntu 9.04 via the Internet.
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Terminal"
Step 2: Run the following commands (copy-paste each line below to the Terminal then hit <enter> after each line)
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
sudo aptitude install hwinfo b43-fwcutter
hwinfo --netcard
sudo iwlist scanning
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
dmesg | grep witch
iwconfig
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output from each command) on this thread
Keep in mind that one or more of the following 4 basic components need to be configured correctly so that wireless can work correctly in Linux:
Wireless configuration in the BIOS, hardware wireless switch setting, active wireless driver version, and firmware for the wireless chipset (stored as a file in Linux).
Regards,
Mark

Hi,
You're welcome. I think installing b43-fwcutter was all that was needed to solve the issue.
If the issue is totally resolved, can you set the status to "resolved", please?

Hi Mark,
I have the same computer and the same problem. Your suggestion fixed the light that says the wireless Internet is on. but when I click to see the wireless networks none are available. Any suggestion?
Here are my results from what you said to do.
Thanks in advance.
