Support for Ubuntu 8.04 has ended more that 10 years ago, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I suggest that you create backup copies of your important files and install a current release of Ubuntu, e.g. 18.04 LTS.

Do you mean 18.04 ?

What is the output of:

lsb-release -a

Thanks
