swap drive setup

Asked by KKevin901

I am currently using Ubuntu 8.04 and expecting to try out 9.04 in hardisk before totally switch to daily use. I have the harddisk partitioned into three partitions: 1st.) Ubuntu8.04, 2nd.) swap 3rd.) data.

Learnt the swap area is a temp working area and will be cleared everytime system shutdown. I am expecting to install the 9.04 into that 3rd partition and using the same swap area setup for 8.04.

Would like to know (if any)upside and downside of sharing the swap drive for two Ubuntu installations within a harddisk.

There is absolutely no downside and you can do that without problems. The upside is quite clear, that you don't need to waste disk space on swap for a system not in use.
