You can start an important amount of windows applications using wine. This is working in both Ubuntu and Kubuntu, and it is in the Universe repository. But in order to be sure that it will work, you have to test it. It is capable to run games with directX functionnalities, so it should work, but I advise you to test before. It is available in both 6.06 and 7.04 versions of (K)ubuntu (and 6.10 too), but you will have the most up-to-date version in the 7.04 one.

Hope that it helps you.

Oh, forgot to mention : to open your apps (only when wine is installed) : right click on it and click on "wine" or "open with" and type "wine".
