why does the following site only open with http & not with https ?

http://releases.ubuntu.com

if you try with https://releases.ubuntu.com

you will get an error. have tried with :

epiphany on debian & 'buntu, firefox esr on debian, firefox quantum on 'buntu & edge on 10.

Because it doesn’t have SSL..... if a web server doesn’t have a certificate for the URL then it won’t listen if you try connecting to a port that isn’t listening

It's not broken. The website works fine. Just because it doesn't use SSL doesn't mean it's broken

sure it works fine.

i never stated that it is broken, pardon me if i was misunderstood.

i have about 40 primary bookmarks of which ubuntu releases is the only htpp site hence i brought it up.

'is this going to get fixed' implies it's broken. If it's not broken then what are you fixing. You can improve something that isn't broken.

It's irrelevant if you had a million bookmarks as to which protocol each one uses. It doesn't mean anything. Not all websites use SSL. This is fine.

HTTP is not deprecated on the Internet. You use it every time you run system updates. This also isn't broken either.
