Audio over HDMI using NVidia 9400

Asked by Skizz

I have this motherboard: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2946 and I'm unable to get audio to output via the HDMI port to my TV. The image is fine, just no audio. I do get audio from the line-out port.

The motherboard uses the NVIDIA GeForce 9400 chipset.

I have updated the OS to 9.04 and the problem is still present.

Thanks,
Skizz

I have managed to get some audio to work over the HDMI interface. Here's how I eventually managed to get it working.

First off, go to this Realtek's web site and download the Linux driver 2.6 version 5.11:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Extract the alsa-driver folder from the downloaded file.

Next, log in as root without the GUI - in rename the file /etc/rc2.d/S30gdm to K70gdm and reboot.

After logging in as root, follow the manual installation instructions in the Readme.txt that was in the archive downloaded from Realtek's website.

Rename the K70gdm back to S30gdm and reboot again.

On login, the login audio can be heard. Flash audio also works from within Firefox. MoviePlayer doesn't play audio but that is probably a configuration option that needs setting - i.e. an unrelated issue.
