taskbar icons wont relocate ubuntu 20.04

Asked by Chris Malicoat

i know ubuntu 20.04 is new and isnt technically released yet, but i went ahead and started using it, and the first thing that came to my attention is that i cannot adjust the icons in my taskbar/favorites bar. In ubuntu 18.04 i could drag the icons in my taskbar to any space i wanted to adjust them, but in 20.04 it doesnt seem to be working properly. I was able to move a single icon a couple of times but the system acts like it does not want to move them. I drag the icon and it does not place where i drag it to. I have dragged many

On my test system with Ubuntu 20.04 I can reorder the task bar icons as desired.

Okay, you are right. If you leave the taskbar on the left side of the screen it works perfectly, however if you move it to the bottom of the screen, which i prefer, then it does not work properly.
I tested the right side of the screen also and it works from that position as well, but for me on my machine, when i place the taskbar at the bottom i cannot easily adjust the icons.

I can confirm your findings.

With the taskbar located at the bottom, it is almost impossible to reorder the icons in Ubuntu 20.04. The same action worked well on Ubuntu 19.10

I suggest that you create a bug report.

My guess is that the target package is gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

At the risk of piling on, I can confirm the same bug on three different notebook computers: one HP and one Toshiba running AMD quad cores and a Dell, running an Intel quad core. I experimented with different size icons (from the min of 16 to the max of 64) and the problem behaves the same way across the size range. Like many, I strongly prefer having my tool tray at the bottom of the screen and on all monitors.

Can you help with this problem?
