Upgrade Hardy Heron to 9.04?

Asked by MaWi

I just installed Hardy Heron on a new PC and found out, that there is a new version (9.04). Should I reinstall everything or is it OK using Hardy Heron as long I install all updates? To be honest: As an Ubuntu newbie I'm happy to have finally everything up and running...
(Is this the right place for such a general inquiry at all?)

no,you can have this release and install updates since it is a long term release and it will be supported till 2011.
i suppose that ubuntu will release and an other long term release till then, but if you want to upgrade to 9.04 you should first upgrade to 8.10 and then to 9.04 and i advice you to take a backup if you want to do this cause it's a long way and you never know....
(yes it's the right place!!:))

You do not need reinstall Ubuntu in order to upgrade to a newer version.

If you wish to upgrade run this command in a terminal:

update-manager -c

But if everything is working and your happy to stay on Ubuntu 8.04 then do exactly that. Like stelios said it is very important to take a backup just in case of an unlikely failure while performing an upgrade.
