Remnants of libreoffice left in Kubuntu minimal install

Asked by Tim Sweeney

After a fresh minimal install of Kubuntu 20.04, there are several libreoffice packages still installed, and it appears on the favorites list.

libreoffice-common/focal,focal,now 1:6.4.0-0ubuntu4 all [installed,automatic]
libreoffice-core/focal,now 1:6.4.0-0ubuntu4 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libreoffice-kf5/focal,now 1:6.4.0-0ubuntu4 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libreoffice-plasma/focal,now 1:6.4.0-0ubuntu4 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libreoffice-qt5/focal,now 1:6.4.0-0ubuntu4 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libreoffice-style-colibre/focal,focal,now 1:6.4.0-0ubuntu4 all [installed,automatic]
libreoffice-style-tango/focal,focal,now 1:6.4.0-0ubuntu4 all [installed,automatic]

Removing them in turn dumps a bunch of dependencies:
  fonts-liberation2 fonts-opensymbol libboost-date-time1.71.0 libboost-filesystem1.71.0 libboost-iostreams1.71.0
  libboost-locale1.71.0 libboost-thread1.71.0 libclucene-contribs1v5 libclucene-core1v5 libcmis-0.5-5v5 libeot0
  libexttextcat-2.0-0 libexttextcat-data libharfbuzz-icu0 libjuh-java libjurt-java liblangtag-common liblangtag1
  libmhash2 libmythes-1.2-0 liborcus-0.15-0 libraptor2-0 librasqal3 librdf0 libreoffice-style-colibre librevenge-0.0-0
  libridl-java libuno-cppu3 libuno-cppuhelpergcc3-3 libuno-purpenvhelpergcc3-3 libuno-sal3 libuno-salhelpergcc3-3
  libunoloader-java libxmlsec1 libxmlsec1-nss libyajl2 qtgstreamer-plugins-qt5 uno-libs-private ure

My understanding is that minimal installs don't include office software, but since this is a new release, I don't know. Is there a reason to have this here?

Thanks!

From which source are you installing?
(K)Ubuntu 20.04 is still in development and not yet officially published, so please do not expect a final "Kubuntu minimal" installer.

It was installed from the Kubuntu 20.04 daily build ISO for Feb 16.

The "the Kubuntu 20.04 daily build ISO" isn't a "minimal install", but installs a full desktop system.

The Kubuntu installer on both the 20.04 daily build and the current 19.10 release offer you two options as part of the second installation screen: "Normal Installation", which gives you the full suite of apps, including office software and KDE PIM, and "Minimal Installation", which says it gives you "Web browser plus basic utilities and applications." At least in 19.10, Minimal Install didn't give you any part of libreoffice. The 20.04 installer leaves you with a partial libreoffice, which seems like incorrect behavior.
