virtual machine create android smartphone

Asked by Lori Grimes

Mostly as a hobby, I want to create a virtual machine with an Android smartphone.
I know that there are downloadable programs that could do this. Virtual Box and VMWare are two that were recommended.
I have looked at Apponfly, but it offers a limited free trial. I am looking for something more permanent and open-sourced.
For this I was told that I could build a VM from scratch with Ubuntu or Debian.
I am interested in dedicating the VM to another project and was wondering if it were possible to do so separately from the function of the phone, or if I would be restricted to virtualizing a phone since that is the hardware I would be using.
Assume that I am completely oblivious to technical jargon and know very little about computers.

There is an x86 version of Android
https://www.fosshub.com/Android-x86.html

You can boot that and use the OS on your desktop. You can use Virtualbox to do this. You can install it with:

sudo apt-get install virtualbox

Thanks for the answer.
However, I'm not using a desktop, only the Android phone.
And doesn't Virtual Box use Windows?

What do you mean "doesn't Virtualbox use Windows"? What does that mean?

Is the question about how to install virtualisation on a mobile phone? Like VMware as a server on a phone?

Do you want to install virtualization software on your Android device, to use Android as host, and some other system (e.g. Ubuntu) as guest?
In that case you are wrong here, because this is support for Ubuntu.
We cannot help in installing virtualization software on Android (if that exists at all).

Okay, I want to thank everyone for their input.

I just found out about Anbox Cloud which runs Android on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS kernel.

So, yeah, I think that a Ubuntu forum would be the place to discuss the installing virtualization software on Android.

The review I read speaks about storing programs in the Cloud and then streaming them to an Android device.

As I understand it, this would allow an infinite number of programs to be installed in the Anbox

while the phone's RAM is devoted to processing functions instead of memory.

Are you talking about "Android on Ubuntu" or "Ubuntu on Android"?

Can you help with this problem?
