Can I download Windows 8.1

Asked by Ray

I wish to use the original Microsoft Excel files and require a Windows section to use same.
Is it possible to download Windows 8.1 into Ubuntu in order to use Excel and a small number of Windows based programs

Ubuntu and Windows are two different operating systems. They cannot be run at the same time.

Possible options:
- Install both operating systems on different hard disk partitions for dual boot, such that you can decide at boot time whether you want to start Ubuntu or Windows
- Install virtualization software (e.g. VirtualBox) such that you can run one OS in a virtual system inside the other one
- Install the wine emulator on Ubuntu (this allows running some Windows programs on Ubuntu - but some Windows programs do not work)
- Use the Ubuntu-provided package libreoffice. libreoffice-calc allows editing Microsoft Excel files.

You can run Virtualbox to run Windows as a VM within Ubuntu. You can't "download Windows into Ubuntu '. Windows and Ubuntu are both operating systems. Windows isn't an application like gedit or a game. It's a totally different sort of software.

Virtualbox will allow you to have Windows running in a window on your desktop. This will obviously need the system resources to run two operating systems simultaneously.

If you have an O365 subscription then you can use the web based applications in your favourite Web browser.

Can you help with this problem?
