Adjusting brightness on Sony-VAIO VPCEH26EN

Not able to adjust my screen brightness.
Have tried to tinker a little with sys/class/backlight files. It does not work.
XBACKLIGHT does not work.
Hot keys do not work either. The hot keys respond, the brightness adjusting animation plays on doing so, but does not change the brightness.
My screen brightness is always at its max and I'm being blinded by it.
