Arun; Hello

You provide skimpy info as to the procedure and the hardware.
Basically all you have to do is
download the desired .iso file
burn or copy that ,iso to a external medium ( DVD/USB)
boot the copied image from a bios setting
choose the appropriate installations option ( wipe disk and install ubuntu ?)

see:
Ubuntu can be installed in lots of ways. Please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation for
documentation. Problems during install? See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CommonProblemsInstall

-hope this helps-

thank you for your response.
I have windows 10 currently installed on the PC and I am trying to install Ubuntu alongside that by using virtual box. I followed the steps but I got error message that something is wrong either with hard drive or faulty CD/DVD.
I will try to go through links you sent.
Many thanks!
Arun

Virtual ox doesn’t install alongside. It runs inside the OS. It runs at the same time.

When you boot the ISO in virtualbox, what message do you see that shows something is awry?

The physical drive media is moot in virtualbox. It is abstracted by the virtual system

Hi Andrew, thanks for the msg
here is the error message I am getting:
……………………………………………………...
"Installation failed
The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disc:
[Errno 5] input/output error

this is often due to faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or faulty hard disk. it may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens....to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move system to cooler environment"
…………………………………………………

I just bought this pc with SSD and hard is new!

thanks,
Arun

This does not look line a faulty SSD, but it seems to me that something went wrong with the virtual disk of the virtual system.

I suggest that you try deleting the virtual machine (including its hard disk), and create a new one from scratch.
