Old notebook crashing- need expert help

Asked by melissa on 2019-11-29

I have an old dell inspirion 910 mini with Ubuntu software. It’s crashing before I can even enter my password. I have many irreplaceable things saved on this notebook. When I called dell, they no longer support the operating system and said it is too old. Is this true? I don’t want to use this for internet, rather just extract the pictures, videos, and documents. I know absolutely nothing about computers and would be forever grateful for any help.

Why do you not have backups? If your data is "irreplaceable" then why have you not got multiple copies of the files etc somewhere else?

It's madness. What if the hard drive fails. Where is your data? A 1Tb USB drive costs a fraction of the cost of professional data recovery services.

Why?

Test the RAM using Memtest86 from GRUB as a good starting point. MKe sure that is healthy.

Can you help with this problem?
