installation with 19.10 takes too much RAM

Asked by rogerdpack on 2019-11-25

I noticed today that if I create an Ubuntu VM (virtualbox, but not related) with 2GB RAM, I can install 19.04 without problem.

However with 19.10 something called "appamor" takes up 1.5GB RAM briefly, and the installation starts thrashing and grinds to a halt: input from the mouse stops working/keyboard etc. After about 1 minute of booting to the desktop 64 bit 19.10 ISO. Unable to complete installation. Need at least 3GB RAM for install to not bind up (this is without any formatted disks locally, yet).

If this is expected it would be good to have at least a warning message of some kind...

Other clues:

I could hear my macbook fan spinning up and the green icon on the "CD" was just spinning like crazy (always there), the mouse would appear to pass over the screen (and back out to host OS) but no clicks were registering, no keyboard presses were reigstering.
