Ubuntu don't reboot properly

Asked by AsstZD

When I'm using GUI reboot tools, or reboot or shutdown -R, the system appears to be shutting down, then immediately restarts without rebooting the computer. Why it doesn't and how to fix it?

Hi,

Could you give a bit more details about what you mean by "rebooting" if not shutting down and start again? To me it's exactly the same thing.

By Rebooting I mean resetting computer so it would performed POST, then tested boot drives, shown boot loader menu, etc. Right now system prints shutdown messages, then immediately startup ones, like ol' good Win'98 did when you 'reloaded' it. I hope situation is clear now ;)

Some modern BIOS's will not POST during a reboot. You would need to shutdown -h (halt) then start to get a reliable POST.

Removing kexec package has solved this problem.
