Ubuntu 19.10 boot hang

Asked by Richard Jones

When first loaded 19.10 hung. I got into system, changed the grub & grub2 to nomodset and saved, system now hangs for a while on purple screen - then gives weak Ubuntu sign - hangs again reports error; [62.508744] haudio haudioCOD2: Unable to bind to codec - then suddenly comes back to full 19.10 working. Tail also says GPU drivers diabled, BIOS Bug resolving symbol [\_SB.PC10.SATO.PRT5_GTF.DSSP] not found. How can I resolve this languid boot method? This is solid state PC.

Does the system have a make and model?

If you boot an older kernel, is it OK?

If I remove nomodeset, the system crashes at next boot.
It used to work well with 19.04 and works with 19.10 after this convoluted boot.

Maybe 5.4 is more suitable for your system

Hi Andrew. I have downloaded and activated:
Linux 5.4.0-050400rc6 ; but it comes up as Linux 5.4.0-050400rc6-lowlatency after going through the the same convoluted procedure. The GRUB file still contains ....nomodeset . I will now try it without that.

OK Andrew that works pretty quick - like flash. Hooragh. But why is it running lowlatency, should I set generic as default and how. Thank you for help so far. PS if you can answer this I will make a donation to Canonical for 19.10.

If it works I wouldn't try to fix it any more :-)

Glad it got sorted
