Downgrade X Window System

When I go to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions on my Ubuntu 9.04 VM, it tells me "unknown version of the X Window System installed. Not installing X Window System drivers." How do I downgrade my X Window System to the version used in Ubuntu 8.10 (where it worked just fine)?

Sorry... this is nearly impossible.
Save the important data and install 8.10 for now. Or wait until VB is supporting x.org-1.6.
