Power off problem.

Asked by Joseph Lamberson

When I do a power off the desktop computer seems to shut down but then it re-boots. Is there a way to fix this problem. I am using Ubuntu 3.28.1 and 18.04.1 LTS on this desktop.

Does the system have a make and model?

This is a custom built desktop with an Intel 7 processor and standard 1 TB Seagate hard drive. This was received from a person recently in a trade to me. Let me know if you need more specific hardware details.

How do you execute the "poweroff" that fails? Via command line, or via the system menu (from the icon in the top right corner of the screen)?

What happens if you issue one if the commands

sudo shutdown --poweroff now
systemctl poweroff

Does the system reboot instead of powering off also with these commands?

More details: Intel i7 4770k processor, motherboard is gigabyte ga-z87x-ud4h. The poweroff used was at the top right of the system menu. Now I tried the two commands from Manfred:

The sudo shutdown --poweroff now does the same thing, it powers off then reboots

The systemctl poweroff does a poweroff and it does not reboot
