Slideshow of personal images on Ubuntu 9.4 desktop as background

Asked by NakiMum

Hi there

I'm using Ubuntu 9.4 and Kubuntu/KDE 4.2 - I like the simplicity and user-friendliness of Ubuntu, but love the kubuntu desktop settings where I can use a personal folder with family pictures as a desktop background (slideshow).

Is this possible with Ubuntu desktop?

Hey dude,

I not sure what you exactly asked for.But if you want to change the desktop background automatically in GNOME,follow the following procedures:

Go to Synaptic Package Manager from System -> Administrations and install a package called as wallpaper-tray.Open this application and specify the path were the pictures are present.

If this is not what you wanted then please specify exactly what you want.

Hi there
thanks for the tip, it helped with some of my issues, but not exactly what I wanted.
I want to use a pictures folder as a desktop background as a slideshow - where all the pictures get rotated after a preset time.

If you jump into appearence settings in systemsettings you can set the wallpaper to be a slideshow there

Hi actionparsnip

I looked for the appearance settings in Ubuntu but couldn't find them. I know about the appearance settings in Kubuntu.

Hey dude,

You should be able to use your pictures folder for desktop background slideshow.

Thanks for that.

Got it solved in the end. I just made a collage of some pics in Picasa and used that.
