how to make Ubuntu 18.04 boot faster

Asked by michael

I ran this command, that Actionparsnip requested for question 683872. My Ubuntu 18.04 seams to be slower than it was. I do not know what constitutes a large gap.

This I do not understand at all. It did not take over 3 hrs. to boot.

4 min. and 7 sec. seams about correct. My question, is about 4 min. OK? Do you see anything that needs to be corrected?

Thank You

Then post the output on the SAME question. Why have you made a new question with the requested output?

To put my output on Chowdhury Masum's question is wrong.

Copied and pasted. This is what I got. Some words flashed up, to fast to read.

michael@michael-Inspiron-531:~$ sudo lshw -C network
[sudo] password for michael:
michael@michael-Inspiron-531:~$

Nothing more.

Closed terminal, tried again. Here are results.

Open a terminal window
issue the command
sudo lshw -C network
when asked, provide your password
then wait until the output is complete and the command prompt is shown again (may take half a minute!)
use the terminal window's menu entries "edit - select all" and "edit - copy"
finally paste everything into this question document.

I opened terminal. Copy and pasted "sudo lshw -C network" This is all that came back. I watched for about four minutes, did something else, and checked every four or five minutes until 31 minutes.

michael@michael-Inspiron-531:~$ sudo lshw -C network
[sudo] password for michael:
michael@michael-Inspiron-531:~$

Tried again, USB and SCSI popped up for a moment. They show as third line, then "michael@michael-Inspiron-531:~$" comes up as third line. I checked Synaptic Package Manager, to see if "lshw" is installed, it is. I found this when I Googled "lshw"

 sudo apt install lshw lshw-gtk

michael@michael-Inspiron-531:~$ sudo apt install lshw lshw-gtk
[sudo] password for michael:

lshw is already the newest version (02.18-0.1ubuntu6.18.04.1).
lshw-gtk is already the newest version (02.18-0.1ubuntu6.18.04.1).

This is weird. lshw does not find any hardware classified as network device.

What is the output of

I have no idea, why
00:07.0 Bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP61 Ethernet (rev a2)
seems to be interpreted as "Bridge".

Back to your initial output:

The gap

"
[Thu Sep 12 10:23:32 2019] audit: type=1400 audit(1568298213.239:90): apparmor …
[Thu Sep 12 13:55:15 2019] perf: interrupt took too long (2551 > 2500), …
This I do not understand at all. It did not take over 3 hrs. to boot.
"
Has nothing to do with boot time any more. the "perf" message was issued very much later during other operations of the system. And also the "snap" messages probably come from an update process to check for updates for snaps.

The last message that I would rate as related to booting is "rfkill: input handler disabled", giving 1 minute and 38 seconds.

If you do not have any WLAN and Bluetooth hardware, then also the rfkill message is not relevant.
Then you would end up with "enp0s7: link becomes ready" and 58 seconds.

I have all wired connections. No Bluetooth hardware. Will marked solved, because if Manfred Hampl and actionparsnip don't have an answer, and it works, I will not worry with it.
