Nirav; Hello -

"precise":
"Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) was the sixteenth release of Ubuntu. !End-of-life was April 28th
               2017. See https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-security-announce/2017-April/003833.html for more
               information"

So how did the 12.04 sources.list file wind up in your 18.04 install ?

Please post back:
cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list
tail -v -n +1 /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*

see here what steps we need to perform to get a 18.04 working source lists file(s).

package manage not happy
-no one is happy-

Nirav; Yukkie !

I am hesitant to offer any means to progress - as you have an End_Of_Life (precise) sources file. Is this install on bare metal, Virtual machine - hosted service ? If this is in fact a 18.04 install, then how did the precise source list file get installed?

what shows:
dpkg -l libc6
see if if we even want to consider messing about.

-maybe so - could be not so-

It seems that your system indeed is running Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic), but the package management configuration is set for a system running Ubuntu 12.04 (precise).

My suggestion:

Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list with admin rights (e.g. with the command "sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list") and replace all occurrences of the word "precise" by "bionic".
Save the file and close the editor.
Execute the command

sudo apt update

and copy/paste the output that you receive back into this question document that we can have a look at it.
