try opening a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and typing:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Nope, its advised that people upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 and then finally onto 9.04. I can't find the note about this but that's what i've been told. 2nd time should work fine. But if you reinstalled Hardy then surely you could just install Jaunty straight? Unless there's data & settings to protect? Is your "/home" on another partition (& therefore fairly safe)?

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
