usb harddrive not recognised error 71

i have a samsung sh-s110 usb external harddrive and my pc with ubuntu 8.10 64bit wont recognise it. my laptop with ubuntu 8.10 32bit has no problem with it. it was ntfs at first and worked on laptop fine, i formatted to fat 32, still fine on laptop but still wont work on pc. run the dmesg thingy and getting error 71. can ayone please help in easy to follow instructions as im still learning. tried different usb sockets and leads-no effect. i have a 500gb ext drive in fat 32 that works fine on both computers so im stumped why the samsung wont, please help

i've solved it somehow. reformatted back to ntfs,tried again-nothing. then reformatted back to fat32 and hey presto, it works!!! i'm confused but happy,i love ubuntu, all problems are solveable.
