Ubuntu 19.04 hangs up at boot after ?Started GNOME Display Manager' is displayed

Asked by Sergio Dal Tio

I downloaded the iso image of Ubuntu 19.04 and created a bootable USB key. The installation procedure works without any problem. At first boot after installation the PC hangs up just after having shown the message:
"[OK} Started GNOME Display manager".
The machine has a 64 bit GIGABYTE EP43-UD3l mainboard equipped with with an Intel processor Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 and 3,8 GiB RAM.
It works fine under Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
Thanks a lot in advance for your attention.
