I can´t install or desinstall programs

When i try to doit a message pop up: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I already pur the command in the terminal but it doesn´t work, what can i do. I have UBUNTU 7.04

Did you run `sudo dpkg --configure -a`?

Since dpkg makes changes to your computers configuration, you need to run it as the superuser (which is what putting sudo in front of the command will do).
