Cannot connect using Remmina

Asked by Donovan Smith

I am having an issue with Remmina. I am using Ubuntu 19.04. I downloaded Ubuntu recently because I had finally had enough of Windows. When I first downloaded Remmina, I was able to remote on to my Windows 7 machine at work from home. I can no longer do that. I receive an error message that states connection to RDP server failed. I looked online and tried the usual solutions. Going to Edit and changing the setting to RDP did not solve the problem. I also read about making changes to a file called freerdp/known_hosts. I can assure you that file does not exist on my computer. What else am I missing? On Friday I was able to remote on. On Saturday I could not and I spent all day Saturday and Sunday trying to fix this with no avail. When I go to my Windows desktop to remote on I am in within 5 seconds. Thank you.

What are you connecting to the Windows 7 system to achieve?
Do other clients work OK?
Do you VPN to work, then connect?
Is remote desktop enabled on the Windows 7 side?
Is the Windows firewall enabled? Is it allowing RDP (This may be set by GPO)
Is there a local firewall on the Ubuntu system? Is this allowing RDP out?
Can you telnet to the Windows 7 system on port 3389 ?
Can you resolve the name of the server OK if you are using a hostname?
