If 9.04 be faster than 8.10

Asked by KKevin901

Looking forward to the 9.04. Saw the 9.04 decriptions saying boot up time is faster. Just wonder if the 9.04 would run faster.

I am currently using 8.04 in several PCs at home. Had try to using 8.10 a while before but found it was running significiantly slower; then switched back to 8.04.

Can anyone advise a ballpark about the 9.04 speed performance.

Thanks a lot.

Well its all relative, yes the boot times are better. Its not significantly faster other than the boot times.
For me its about 25-30 seconds on a 2ghz single core processor (AMD Sempron) with a nvidia graphics card (Its slightly slower with a nvidia graphics card)
If I used ext4 it would be even faster at booting.
So yes it is faster.

Hope that helps
Shane

Oh and just to say you shouldnt use ext4 because its still in testing in ubuntu and still has a few problems.
So what for 9.10 for ext4 as a default file system.

It boots faster and runs snappy on my Thinkpad. YMMV. :)

It runs much better on a Dell 1720 than 8.10 did. The Ubuntu 8.10 release was very choppy for me on multiple different computers. Ubuntu 9.10 brought back the snappiness that was there in 7.04.
