Gnome harms mouse operation

Asked by Mark Preston

Ubuntu 18.04 was clean installed 1Jul19. Stock install. From 1Jul to 3Jul, mouse works flawlessly. 4Jul19, mouse right button cannot open context menu. Some mouse clicks cause a delayed response of 20-30 seconds. Reading on the 'net has been no help.

I've installed Gnome Tweak and tried solutions from AskUbuntu and other sites. I've installed dconf-editor and tried solutions proposed for restoring mouse works to no avail there.

I purposely re-installed (cleanly) the OS, as the former 18.04 install had the same mouse problem. This happens with more than one mouse. Both a wired and wireless mouse were tested.

I tested the mouse with the Settings/Devices/Mouse and Touchpad "Test Your Settings" and the mouse shows no problem there.

Highlighting text to copy & paste causes this extraordinary delay, again, 20-30 seconds before the mouse request is fulfilled.

What is causing this? How do I restore proper mouse operation?
