My computer crashed, so I reinstalled Xenial 16.04

Asked by hummingbird

My computer crashed on June 28. June 29th I reinstalled Xenial Xerus 16.04 from a disc. It took a 520GB update. Most of the programs seem to work alright, but the Ubuntu Software just has a lot of empty boxes (with written words). It won't bring up the software installed, or any software to download. It just sits and spins.

Also when I added my HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer, the HP blue ball Toolbox emblem isn't in the menu bar. I had to go get this in the past, but can't find the code to put in the terminal to add it.

I'm sure there are other problems since I saw lots of errors as it was installing the updates, but don't know anything else at the moment.

Can I use Synaptic Package instead of the Ubuntu Software downloader?

hummingbird; Hello -

As you say " I saw lots of errors as it was installing the updates," where there should have been none - I do suggest that you verify that ISO file that you downloaded:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

confirm the integrity of the copy:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

If there is any failure then it is to start all over and do the install process again.

-to err is human -> to really foul things up is a corrupted .ISO-
