putting drivers in /lib/modules

Asked by Isaac Flores

I have an nvidia 1070 card. I thought I'd been using the proprietary driver version 430-14, but under the Additional Drivers tab in Software & Updates it only shows nvidia-driver-390 and X.Org X server. How do I move 430 so it shows up there? Every once in a while an update resets the driver I'm using and I'd prefer picking it from the menu instead of going thru command line every time.

There is no package for nvidia-430 in the Ubuntu repositories (yet), but there are some PPAs. Maybe using one of them helps.

Does the 3D work under the 390 driver, ok?

Then why are you updating it?

I was having a problem where when I updated Ubuntu base, my hdmi monitor it would sometimes stop working. I fixed that by updating the driver. This last time I found out about selecting drivers in software updater and did that and noticed that I couldn't use version 430 from there.
