peterzay - Hello

I do suggest you try and boot an older kernel - from the grub boot menu.
What results ?

-we do try and help-

Bashing-om, editting a text file is over your skill set?

The system is comatose. It hangs on the Ubuntu splash screen. Booting while holding left shift key does not get you into grub2.

How can you edit a text file under these conditions?

1. If you see the Ubuntu logo with the dots on screen, you can hit the ESC key and should see the output from the boot process (actions started and completed, …)
What are the last messages shown before the system freezes?

2. You should experiment a bit with timing of presssing the shift key during boot (earlier, later, hitting it repeatedly, …). Maybe you then have success in getting into the grub menu.

Your reply now is much more constructive rather than shrugging and being defeated. Just because the GUI doesn't load doesn't mean you cannot edit text files

You can even boot to the Ubuntu install desktop, mount your system partition and edit the file there.

When I boot while holding ESC, the system asks for the decryption password. I type in the password, press down and hold on ESC, and then hit enter while holding down ESC.

I get a screen of messages whiz by with a lot of green [ ok] and then a new screen with an underscore _ in the upper left corner and then the system goes comatose.

Is there a file somewhere on this system that should be uploaded to the bug report to help the team analyze this issue?

If so, please give me precise directives to accomplish this.
