Missing Tab button in on-screen keyboard

Asked by Giampiero Salvi

Hi,
I have been using Ubuntu 18.04 on a Surface Go for a while now, mostly very happyly. I often use the device as a tablet (disconnecting the keyboard) especially when I am annotating pdf files with the pen. After I am done working, I often need to do simple tasks in the terminal such as committing the changes through subversion or git. Because the physical keyboard is disconnected I am using the on-screen keyboard in these cases. However, using the terminal without completion (Tab key) is rather tedious, especially on a on-screen keyboard.

Would it be possible to add the Tab key to the on-line keyboard? Ideally it would be in the default keyboard (that is no need to hit the symbols key). But I could not even find the key in the other modes.

Thank you!
Giampiero

Running Ubuntu 18.04 with Gnome 3.28.2.

Are the commands always the same, that you run?

No, usually they aren't. I would like to use completion in the terminal even when the keyboard is disconnected. By the way, is there a reason why the tab key should not be included in the on-screen keyboard?

Thank you

Bah, if there are a few commands you use, you could make scripts you can double click etc

Which onscreen keyboard do you use, please?

Thanks

Hi again,
thanks for the reply. It is the default keyboard that is activated when I turn on "Screen Keyboard" in "Universal Access" in the Gnome Settings (Gnome 3.28.2).

The commands might be similar (svn ci -m "comment" path, git add path, git commit -m "comment", git pull, git push). However, the paths in these commands are always different. That's were the completion comes really handy to avoid typing every single character in the path.

Anyway, if this is possible it would be great, otherwise I will live with it. Not really sure I understand the advantage of having an incomplete keyboard, though.
Thanks!
