software update issues
Hello,
I was doing a software update and received a message that there are only hashes of updates.
I do not know what this means. I listed the results below.

I have two questions.
1) Regarding question # 3. If I do a dist-upgrade, does give me a new version of Ubuntu? I have 18.04 now. will it give me the next version up?
Regarding question #4. I looked at the step 6 in the link. There is a lot of stuff there and I do not know what any of it is.
Every once in a while I get some advice here and it kills my system and I have to reinstall all over again.
It is probably not your advice but my system but I just want to know that if I run all those commands that it will not kill my
computer.
Also, if I do run those commands, am I supposed to post the results here?
thank you

"sudo apt dist-upgrade" (or "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade") does NOT initiate a release-upgrade to a different Ubuntu release. (That would be started with the command "sudo do-release-
The purpose of the commands in step #6 of the package management troubleshooting procedure are:
1. some diagnostic display commands
2. some commands to clean local package cache and reloading from the server
3. some cleanup commands
4. some commands to initiate installing all available updates.
My suggestion is to run
sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
first to verify whether your issue was just a temporary problem.
This command does the same as running update-manager and installing all available updates, but does this in a different mode, such that the results can easily be copy/pasted.

Thank you for your answer.
Ok, ran the sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade. I have posted the results below. As you can see, there are a whole lot of errors and hashes.
So, I will move on to step 6 of the link and post the results.
