built in screen vanished

Asked by Njaf

My laptop suddenly lost its built in screen somehow. I can see the screen if I connect my laptop to my TV through HDMI but when I check there is only the TV in the nvidia x server settings (there used to be the TV and the laptop screen there). I want my laptop screen back and I don't know what to do, please help!

I've managed somehow to get it back to the laptop screen, but now it refuses to connect to the the screen connected by HDMI instead. I suppose this'll have to be good enough for now.

Most laptops have a function key combination to enable/disable internal and external screens.
On Acer Aspire the key combo Fn-F5 should be the one that that disables and enables external screens.
See your laptop's manuals, and/or try identifying the correct keys on the keyboard.
