i cannot connect my pc ubuntu18.04 oas to my smart lg tv using hdmi

i try to use a hdmi adapter from my pc to smart tv, wi fi is search is on ,on tv but nothing appears on screen . it worked on my widows seven but when installing ubuntu i erased my hard drive by mistake. by adater i mean a hdmi connector or cord
