Chrome Ubuntu 18.04LTS "Enter Password"

Asked by Rich.b

Chrome Ubuntu 18.04LTS "Enter Password" to unlock keyring.

What is this (only on Chrome not Firefox) I have to press cancel 6 or 7 times to get rid of it.

Entering My PC P/W does not work.

It only appeared after I upgraded to to 18.04LTS from 16.04LTS.

How can install a password or get rid of it all together ?

Thanks for any help.

Richard

Rich.b; Hello

Try this:
Close Chrome. Open the file manager, press ctrl+H or show hidden files from menu, go to .local/share/keyrings, move the content to some backup place. Then logout and log back in. Open Chrome, there will be a pop up asking you to set a keyring password, leave it blank, confirm, then it shouldn't bother you anymore. If everything works, you can delete the backup you saved earlier.

-hope this helps-

Hello Bashing-om,

Thank you.

Yes that did the trick - the window asking for the password no longer appears at all.

I did find 3 files in .local/share/keyrings and I did move these to Folder on my desktop.

These were:- login.keyring 185.5kB
                         user.keystore 207bytes
                         user.keystore.SJ4R9X 0bytes

Is it now safe to delete all these files?

Rich.b - He he ...

Sure, you can delete the files -- you have backups :) If there should happen to be a problem you have the means to go-back.
