No sound on board real tek audio

Asked by Andrew Gulak

I have an ALC883 Realtek integrated sound card on a DFI P-35 Blood Iron motherboard. I HAD 8.1 installed a few weeks ago, and I had no sound. In System>Preferences>sound it is set to auto detect. I have tried it on all settings and no dice. I switched the version to 8.10 (64 bit) hoping that would solve the problem (and take advantage of the 64 bit deal) and I still have no sound. No error messages or anything, just no sound. All the media programs perform as if they were producing sound, but they are not. I have a dual boot system that works fine with windows. I know I am leaving out key points. This whole Ubuntu thing is VERY new to me, so pardon any errors or lack of information. In other words, be gentle with me.
