All is tiny on my computer

Asked by Miguel Caballero

I've recently installed Ubuntu as my principal OS on my Laptop Dell Inspiron 13 7359 and after the installation I realized that everything it's really tiny, icons, top bar, font size, clock, etc. I've tried to use tweak-tools to increase the scale value on my computer but it's only a partial fix, also I increased the icon size and zoomed in the Firefox browser and some apps but again, it's just a partial fix., finally I've reinstalled Ubuntu and the problem persists.
Someone told that some Dell devices have problems with Linux and that the problem could be on the graphics drivers that Linux install by default.
So the question is, What can I do to fix my problem? Or if the problem is on the graphics drivers, Where can I find those drivers to fix the problem and how to install them?

Here are the specs of my computer that result after runing the command posted on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicsTroubleshootingProcedure

Command:
lspci -nnk | egrep -i '3d|aphics|display|nouveau|nvidia|radeon|trident|vesa|vga'; uname -a; Xorg -version; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install mesa-utils hardinfo fbset nux-tools inxi; inxi -F; sudo fbset -i; apt-cache show xserver-xorg | grep Version; xrandr; fglrxinfo; nvidia-settings -g |head -n 30 ; sudo lshw -short; sudo lshw -C display; dpkg -l | egrep -i 'fgl|intel|mesa|mesa-utils|nvidia|nouveau|radeon|trident|video-ati'; cat /etc/lsb-release; dmesg | egrep -i 'abort|ailed|bug|error|fail|fgl|GLX|GPU|intel|missing|nouveau|NVIDIA|radeon|segment|trident|VESA|VGA|wfb|\(EE\)|\(WW\)'; cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep -I model; cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | egrep -i 'abort|ailed|bug|display|error|fail|fgl|GLX|GPU|intel|issing|nouveau|nvidia|radeon|segment|trident|VESA|VGA|wfb|\(EE\)|\(WW\)'; sudo dmidecode|egrep 'anufact|roduct|erial|elease'; cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf; /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p; ubuntu-support-status ; sudo lsmod

Try reducing the resolution. Click on the Settings icon, then select the Device in the left hand column, then Display. Click on the resolution, and select a lower resolution in the dropdown list.

Hi Ubfan! That's something that I didn't mention, but I've actually tried it. I'd like to find a solution that if it's possible, doesn't involves any sacrifice like the resolution of my monitor. Buy thanks for the recomendation.

Small screen, high resolution, big display items -- pick any two. If an large external monitor is not possible, maybe different workspaces at different resolutions would be of interest? See https://askubuntu.com/questions/587077/different-screen-resolutions-for-each-work-space

I am using KDE, but I'm sure Gnome has the same functionality but the actions described below only apply to KDE.
Try using the system settings application. Under Appearance, select "Icons", the "Get New Schemes" and view the selections available and install them.

Another possible solution is to select the current theme, then select the 'advanced' tab and view the icon sizes selected. You should have an option to increase the size of the icons. The default Desktop size is 48px, but you can go up to 256px on it, or any of the icon sets you can choose from.

Hope this helps!
