Settings app frequently stalls

Hi, I am trying to configure my new System76 laptop for the first time. When I try to navigate between the different sections in the Ubuntu Settings application, such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and Details, then the Settings app often freezes for several seconds before finally loading the section. Further clicks during the freeze are ignored.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver, in case that matters.
