I pressed on system, then on administration and finally on system
testing. The round small circle appeared indicating something was
loading. Then it stopped and nothing appeared - n0 window - nothing.

Are all the updates installed?

According to the Update Manager, the system is up-to-date.

I tried reinstalling the package with Synaptic, but there was no change.

I just googled the problem and came up with a bug report indicating that many are having this problem since upgrading to Jaunty. It is listed as Bug #357470.

I am closing this thread as "solved" since it is no longer a question but a bug that someone will fix.

Rather than closing as 'solved' I would link it to the bug, which I did.

I did not know what to do. I'll do that in the future.

I think i figured what the issue was with System Testing. It need root privileges to run. To correct the issue I went to System > Preferences >Main Menu. Select system testing within the menu and click properties. In the command field enter "gksu ". Please note the "space" after gksu before the command to run system testing. It should work from there
