windows reports ubuntu drive is full, but it isn't

Asked by Roger King

I am trying to create a Ubuntu NAS in order to backup videos from my windows box.
My ubuntu box has a 640MB drive for the OS and a 1.5 TB drive for the videos.
When copying video files from Windows 10 to the smb share on ubuntu, I get the error message that there is not enough space "Error: Unknown error. There is not enough space on the disk. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070070".
But looking at that drive in Ubuntu, there is only 8% of it being used.

Any thoughts?

Please note that I am a linux newbie, this being my first build, so you will likely have to be detailed in what steps you want me to take. Thanks in advance.

Using SMB with NTFS is an absolute nightmare. Is there any scope to wipe the drive and use a better file system, like EXT4 ?

I would prefer to avoid a nightmare!
How do I go about doing what you suggest?

Wipe the unmounted partition and fomat it to Ext4 then restore the data from your backups. Dead easy
