I am using Ubuntu Studio but have lost all sound

I had sound for several months then when i would be playing a song on you tube it lost sound in the middle of a song. Thought my sound card must be going bad. Then it stopped all sound. I switched back to motherboard sound ,but still no sound. Do I need to format my drive and reinstall?
