firefox stuck .in ubuntu ..worked ok to start with. have reloaded it no better , any ideas? will go to some bookmarked sites but wont go to links from a google search .. very strange !!

have recently set up a machine with dual boot vista and ubuntu .. worked well initally with no probs. after a few days the firefox got very slow and stopped working although it will go to some of my bookmarked pages ( but not others). I solved the problem once by formatting the partition and reinstalling from the cd but I dont want ot go throug that every few days. does anyone have any suggestions ? the machine is on a router shared with another windows machine which works fine and the machine with linux onti accessses the interniet with firefox ok using vista.

Firstly update your machine.
Then if the problem is still happening come back again.

Which Ubuntu?
May have something to do with the phishing filter and sqlite. Simply said, Google collects first all related sites which are called in bookmarks, this takes a while and sometimes slows down firefox.
But this bug was actually fixed:

However you don't need to reinstall when firefox is acting slow or whatever. Most of the time it helps to create a new profile by renaming .mozilla folder. You should backup bookmarks and note your extensions, anything else will be gone.
