installation flashdrive for Text based Ubuntu

I need just the text based ubuntu installation to boot from USB FlashDrive so that i can quickly boot the machine. I just need to access data from the machine. I am looking for Quick bootup from Flash drive once i power on the machine.

No ubuntu doesnt have that sort of feature.
Id recommend to you damn small linux its graphical but it runs on 50mb in ram off the cd or a usb.

Dear Shane,

Thank you very much for all your help.

I tested this and it took 50 sec to boot from flash drive on 1.4 Ghz intel processor with 1 GB RAM.

Can you advise me if at all i can reduce the booting time by setting some parameters in OS ?
