question mark icon instead of LAN icon

Asked by Seiichi Nakashima

Dear everyone.

I used ubuntu 18.04.1, and sometime I experienced that question mark icon instead of LAN icon.
when question mark icon diplayed, my network connection seem to be slow speed.
My network environment is only ipv4, ipv6 packet rejected router.
and ubuntu 18.04.1 setup ipv6 disable.
Why network LAN icon changed to question mark icon?

Are you using a wired or wireless connection?
Does the connection work despite the question mark?
Can you please provide a screenshot of the issue (you will need to use an image hosting service to make a URL of the image. Replying to the automated email and attaching an image doesn't work)

Thanks

This Question Mark means the internal connectivity test fails.

If you don’t need it, you can turn it off.

Method 1)

Go to Settings > Privacy > Connectivity Checking

Set it OFF. (Then, restart your WiFi connection)

Method 2)

Add a file in /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d for example 20-connectivity.conf with the following content. (You might want to check if you have other conf file with that options or if you added something in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf)

[connectivity]

uri=

The empty uri disables this test.

Thank you mail.

I use a method 1, and my desktop PC has no WiFi, only has a NIC.
I use ubuntu-18.04.1 by this setting.

Is this might be an error related to router login or IP address. I have been facing similar problems for a time now and can't decide what is exactly causing it.

I used Method 1, and now no trouble.
Go to Settings > Privacy > Connectivity Checking, Set it OFF.

connectivity check information.

Connectivity checking is used to detect connection issues and
helps you to stay online. if your network communications are
being monitored, it could be used to gather technical information
about this computer.

I think this is ubuntu setting problem, not router login or IP address.
I am set off this setting, same phenomenon not occured.
